PSHE and HRE Intent
The PSHE curriculum intends to equip our young people for the real world. We aim to reinforce a warm, caring and safe environment which promotes positive mental health and well-being and a sense of belonging in our pupils. PSHE education helps our children to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of a diverse society, with a compassion for others around them.
Our curriculum intends to help the children to understand and value how they fit into and contribute to the world they live in and we aim to offer rich opportunities for them to discover this. PSHE helps to foster wellbeing and to develop character and personal qualities that we believe are fundamental to pupils being happy, successful and productive. We aim to help children to understand how they are developing personally and socially and to tackle many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up.
Through PSHE teaching, children become more able to know how and when to ask for help and to know where to access support. We aim to provide children with an understanding of how their bodies change, including the key changes in boys and girls throughout puberty. We offer the opportunity for inclusive discussions surrounding healthy relationships and what they might look like and how to recognise them within friendships and families. We want our children to have high aspirations, a belief in themselves and to feel safe and listened to in their learning environment.
Jigsaw Puzzle Pieces
Each half term, the whole school will cover a new unit of Jigsaw. Each unit is represented by a different puzzle piece. There will therefore be a half-termly Jigsaw 'theme' running throughout the school.
Protective Behaviours
Camp Hill Primary School is dedicated to the safeguarding and well-being of all of our pupils and prides itself on offering a very high standard of pastoral care. To support this, we deliver the Taking Care: Protective Behaviours programme once a year in all classes across the school.
The simple, interactive programme aims to educate children in being aware of their right to feel safe all of the time. It also enables them to become more aware of their own 'early warning signs' for when something is not right for them and who they can turn to as a support network, should they need it.
All class teachers deliver this work to students in the Autumn term, every year, to reiterate its invaluable messages throughout their time here at Camp Hill. We feel it is always important to enable pupils to feel cared for and listened to and we feel that this short unit of annual work helps to develop and nurture this as they progress through the school.
